Luwak Coffee Plantation Bali

As you all know by now, I love to travel. The happiness and adrenaline I feel when discovering new places, new people, new cultures… Well, it’s like nothing else! And it’s so beneficial in every aspect of our lives, really. It’s great for your mind, so I bet that it does wonders for your physic as well and , for me, personally, it’s really the best source of inspiration for my work and my life in general. I feel so invigorated when coming back from a trip… Are you a travel lover?

The first time we sat foot in Asia, we landed in Bangkok and I told you a lot about that here on the blog. But let me tell you that for someone with a love for traveling, an open mind and constant hanger for knowledge, Asia is just too addictive and so, we went to Bali. I didn’t really know what to expect from Bali (other than the peace and love perpetrated on “Eat, Pray, Love”) but I did not expect what I found…

But first things first: I loved it. That being said, my first hour after landing, I seriously considered getting on the first plain back. Yes, I know, how is that possible, you ask!? Let me tell you…

Denpasar Airport is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, literally CRAZY!!! We had booked a “Blue Bird” cab but couldn’t find it, so we had to walk around and the harassment from all the hundreds of cabbies there is insane! We have had a long flight, had barely slept, we where super tired and that stalking was unbearable at one point. Finally, we decided to stop looking for our booked cab and just negotiated a fare with one of our “stalkers” – and here’s your number one tip: Everything must be negotiated in Bali, otherwise you’ll be ripped off a lot.

Has you see not the easiest arrival but has the days went buy, has I grown more accustomed  to the people and it’s ways I found myself at peace. Amongst the chaos and the noise, I found calm. It’s weird, right? And I don’t even know how to explain it, I think it’s one of those things that you can only feel… or don’t. I did. I see myself has a city girl and yet, at some point, I could see myself living there, with eyes on the ocean, eating seafood by the beach, walking through the people, feeling relaxed and happy.

Now, what to see:

Ubud Monkey Forest

Definitely, “Ubud Monkey Forest – It’s amazing how many monkeys are there! Take your rabies shots so you can enjoy the fury company without fear.

Seminyak sunset and romantic dinner

You can’t see the sunset on most of the island so go to Seminyak for a romantic dinner, with your feet on the sand and the most gorgeous sunset over the ocean.

Bali Volcano - Kintamani Volcano and Mount Batur

If you like the outdoors, it’s worth checking out the volcano, refreshing yourself at a natural waterfall and simply enjoy the view.

Luwak Coffee Plantation Bali

Visit a coffee plantation, sample all the variety of coffee and teas and taste the most expensive coffee in the world, courtesy of the Luwak! It really is very good.

Sanur Beach

The beaches are pretty but they are not, even remotely, amongst the best we visited. Bare in mind that Asia has very different costumes that the West and so, you’ll find a bottle floating here and there. Also they have lots of algae. That being said, if you don’t have a problem with that, in resort areas, the staff is constantly removing what they can, so you should be fine.

Visit the silver and wood paths, but avoid buying on the first place they take you too.

Balinese local food-Sanur-Bali

The food is amazing if you like spicy, if not, you should consider not traveling to Asia at all. Their food is generally pretty spicy and seasoned. I loved it so I recommend taking advantage of the many beach front restaurants, even if they don’t look much – just make sure you take all the shots necessary before your travel.

Be informed of the safe areas and the few areas to avoid. Then walk around, get to know the villages and the people, ask questions and pay attention since their english is not that good (still, is a bit better than in Bangkok!).

Always get a “Blue Bird” when you need a taxi and make sure the meter is running – this company usually has it but most cabbies will pick you up with no meter and then charge you whatever they feel like. This being said, cabs are a really inexpensive way to move around.

Puri Saren Agung-Ubud Palace

Everywhere they will salute you placing the palms together and nodding their head, like a bow. You’ll find yourself doing it too in no time!

There is no dress code in Bali, since they’re very accustomed to tourists and are manly hindus. I recommend being casual, prefer light and comfortable fabrics and embrace the island lifestyle.

Seminyak sunset and romantic dinner

Be prepared for the commotion on the streets, the sales people invitations, the traffic… Let it sink in and soon you’ll end up not noticing it as much. Then the calm will come, from whit-in. Bali gets etched in your soul, without explanation… go there and let me know if you felt the same.

Have a great trip!
